Presiding District Judge Michelle M. Thomason (formerly Judge Michelle Hart) was appointed by Governor Bob Riley to the District Court on August 29, 2006, and was re-elected in 2008.  She sits as a Special Circuit Judge, where she hears family court cases such as divorces, custody and juvenile matters, and Protection from Abuse cases, in addition to district court cases involving domestic violence, traffic and criminal issues.

Judge Thomason graduated from Mobile College (now the University of Mobile) with a Bachelor of Science in business in 1992 and received her Juris Doctor from Tulane Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1995.  Prior to her appointment to the bench, she was a partner in the law firm of Pearson, Cummins & Hart, where she practiced primarily family law.

Judge Thomason is a lifelong Republican and is President of the Eastern Shore Republican Women for the years 2012 and 2013.  She currently attends Graceport Church in Fairhope, and in the past has taken on many active roles in church leadership, including church council chairman, staff-parish relations chairman, finance chairman, youth leader and has been on several mission trips.  She has served her community in other leadership positions over the years, and currently serves as the District Court representative on the Alabama Leadership Team on Court Responses to Domestic Violence; as a member of the Baldwin County Domestic Violence Task Force and the Education Committee for the Alabama Judicial College; and is the Treasurer for the Alabama District Judges Association.  She is a frequent seminar speaker throughout the State on family and domestic violence laws.  She is also a member of the Fairhope Sunset Rotary Club.

Judge Thomason is married to Tony Thomason.  She has one son, Jonathan, who is an associate pastor at Shalimar United Methodist Church in Fort Walton Beach, a daughter-in-law, Liz, and two grandchildren.
